The warwick races

  • The Warwick Turf Club offers a great day's racing in the country, an easy day trip from Toowoomba, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
  • It features good racing facilities, and has appeal for interest groups from the city who are looking for a different sort of day out.
  • The Warwick Turf Club races 6 times a year, and the Warwick Picnic Race Club holds the Warwick Picnic Races in May each year.
  • Race dates for the coming year include Saturday 30th June 2007 (Cold as Charity Raceday), Saturday 25th August(Rural Fire Brigades Raceday), Saturday 13th October (WARWICK CUP - a major event for corporate and social groups), Saturday 1st December (Great Big Christmas Party), Wednesday 26th December (Boxing Day), Saturday 23rd February 2008 (4WK Charity Raceday), and Saturday 17th May 2008 (WARWICK PICNIC RACES).
  • These dates can be projected into the next equivalent year dates. For example, for almost 150 years the Cup has been held on the second Saturday in October.
  • Warwick attracts large fields of horses, and there are always at least a dozen bookmakers as well as SKY facilities, and TAB. There are bars and a canteen selling good country fare.
  • It's a great day socially, a great venue for special parties or get-togethers, and caters to the interests of racegoers and people just looking for a very pleasant social day out.
  • There are various prizes to be won through racebook competitions on the day, including oncourse betting vouchers, dinners for two, weekend accommodation at the Brisbane Riverview Hotel, and other prizes at different race meetings, each of which is structured to offer a special feature to make it a little bit special.

  • Country people are famed for their hospitality;  the country race track is, historically, the centre of rural social life. Warwick's race club is one of the oldest in Queensland. Its Cup pre-dates the Melbourne Cup by one year!
The Club is typical of country race clubs, run by an enthusiastic volunteer committee whose members work hard to ensure its success.  The Club is vibrant and successful and has one of the highest rates of race nominations in Queensland.
  • Allman Park Racecourse is situated on the Condamine River flats, with a very pleasant outlook across to the town of Warwick.   It has the prerequisite racing facilities including a grass track, betting and TAB facilities, SKY, canteen, public bar, members' bar, all set among green lawns with a nicely-appointed (if drought-stricken) rose garden.
  • Warwick itself is a country town of some 10,000, strategically located approx. 1 3/4hr  from Brisbane on the Cunningham Highway - a comfortable round day trip.
  • A race day could be followed by a weekend of comfortable accommodation, dinner, and a leisurely sight-seeing Sunday, or maybe golf or bowls.  Visit our website on http://www.warwickturfclub.org.au/ for more information.
