Warwick Horse Racing gets Green Light for December 1st Our horses are racing again and just in time to kick start our Christmas celebrations. We are finally going to see the racing come to life again after quite a drought this year. The Great Big Christmas Party race day is set to be Bigger and Better in order to make up for lost time.
Jane Grieve, Warwick Turf Club Secretary explains, “it has been a long, worrying time since the horse flu closed down horse movement on 25th August, when we had a race day scheduled; Warwick lost its Cup to the horse flu drama and we were worried that we would not race for the rest of the year; however we are very pleased that Queensland Racing has pulled out all stops to get racing going from 1st December and we happen to be one of the first race clubs to have a race meeting scheduled on that date. We sincerely hope that the community of Warwick will support its race club by turning up in style and in strength for our Great Big Christmas Party raceday and welcome racing back to our part of the world. There will be five races; the Warwick Turf Club has been advised through Qld Racing that because of the special circumstances, viz horses have been unable to train because of restrictions to horse movement since 25 August; they will be lenient about smaller fields. Warwick usually has amongst the largest race fields in the state, from 7 to 14 per race. We are expecting smaller fields but no less exciting to actually have horses racing here. The track is in magnificent condition after recent rain and will be a wonderful racing surface, fully grassed over for the first time in several years. Event Coordinator, Ms Leanne de Toerkenczy says, “Group tickets are selling well, so you need to stop thinking about it and pick up the phone or get into Hynes News and make your booking, to ensure that your group gets a good spot under the marquees’. Gates open at 11.30am. All pre-booked groups will be seated in marquees, $10 per person and free entry for children under 14 years of age. Santa will be there for the young and old. Plus there will be kids entertainment with pony rides, jumping castles and snow-cones. Tickets can be purchased from Hynes News, Palmerin Street Warwick or phone 4661 1517. Group catering is also available through Bramble Patch and Brysons. For further information go to www.warwickturfclub.org.au or call Jane on 0427 004 094 |
